The Empire Engine
Bluffing and resource management microgame, co-designed with Chris Marling and published on the web in 2013 by Good Little Games, and by AEG in 2014. Each player takes control of a great power vying for control of the continent in a dystopian future.
Born from the mind of Chris early in 2013, he quickly enlisted me to help refine his idea of card-rondels, and before long we had a pretty great little game. Its minimal components (18 cards and 45 resource cubes) made it a perfect fit for the Good Little Games line, where it was web-published. Chris has written a great designer diary over at his blog which recounts the journey of the game (a story which has a few more twists left…).
