It has been a while since I have last written a post on this oft-maligned blog, but there are a lot of new things to tell you about!

Good Little Games is reborn

Some of you may have heard about Good Little Games, which was a website offering free print-and-play microgames that had to fit on 2 pages of A4 paper or less (which equated to 18 or fewer cards). Set up by Brett Gilbert in 2013, there eventually were 11 games uploaded to the site, including Empire Engine by myself and Chris Marling. I believe Brett said there were something like ~30,000 downloads of games from the site over the last 4 years, which is pretty impressive.

Unfortunately, the burden of preparing new games for the site, essentially for free, took its toll on Brett, and since mid-2014 there were no new games added to the site. Until now, that is!

I had the idea that we could relaunch the site, and commit to co-designing a new game for it once every month. To try and spur us on this monumental endeavour I also thought we could utilise a new form of crowdfunding that had been created since the site was first created — Patreon. Patreon lets creators of content such as Youtube videos, art or blogs earn money from people who want to support their creative endeavours, all the while allowing that content to still be freely accessible to all, regardless of whether they contribute or not. It seemed a perfect fit for us, as we wanted the games to still be free to all, but it would be nice if we could have some small amount of financial support.

We launched our Patreon last week, and as of writing we have 9 wonderful supporters who are giving us a total of $49 per game released. First of all, I am incredibly grateful and a little humbled by these individuals supporting us at such an early stage — thank you! We are offering some small rewards for pledging at different levels: a pledge of $3 of more per game gives you access to our designer posts where we talk about our design process for new Good Little Games, and answer any designer questions you might have, and at $5 or more supporters get access to PnP files of upcoming releases, and can participate in the playtesting and development of these games (they also get a special shout out in the rules).

The first game of this new life for Good Little Games is also now available — Good Little Trains is a fun game of running your trains over an ever-changing set of tracks in order to deliver the most valuable cargo. You just need to download the cards and rules from the website, and need a set of 9 markers per player to play. I would definitely encourage you to try it out and let us know what you think; the great thing about offering the games via the website is that we can constantly update them with more feedback.

Pyramids and Light and Dark are released

Two new games of mine have been released in the past months — Pyramids is co-designed with Brett Gilbert and published by IELLO, and Light and Dark is co-designed with Trevor Benjamin and published by AEG. Hopefully you should be able to find them at all good games stores near you, and I hope you enjoy them!

New video of Professor Evil and the Citadel of Time

The next game to be released will be Professor Evil and the Citadel of Time, co-designed with Brett Gilbert and to be published by Funforge in June or July of this year. I was recently at the International Games Festival in Cannes and recorded an interview with Ludovox, a French gaming videos site, explaining how to play Professor Evil and a little bit of my work process.
